Who is the ideal student?

Voice Lessons for Kids and Teens are perfect for young people ages 7+. I work with students who are complete beginners as well as those who have had previous training (ie. previous private instruction, school choir or music class, high school musicals, etc.)

What do you work on in lesson?

In lessons, we work through foundations of technique, including how to engage breath support for singing, expand range, smoothen registration changes, and build confidence. Additionally, I work with all of my students on reading music and sight singing. We explore all of these topics through vocal exercises, and repertoire in the pop, rock, jazz and musical theater genres, amongst others. Students will have weekly homework assignments.

What is the value of singing lessons for my child or teen?

  • To develop healthy technique for easeful, flexible singing

  • To build confidence in self-expression

  • To help a young person foster a love and appreciate for the Arts

  • To practice the patience and focus of working toward a long-term goal

  • To develop a clear understanding of how to warmup and practice

  • To strengthen emotional regulation skills

Lessons for Kids + Teens

My Approach

I believe in a holistic approach to singing instruction that makes for meaningful progress. Our voices carry deep power, and therefore vulnerability. I believe my job as your instructor is to guide you toward confidence and more easeful creative expression. I prioritize vocal technique and health while guiding development of creativity and harmony between mind and body.

I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of students in my ten years teaching experience. Prior to running my own private music studio, I’ve been employed as a voice instructor out of multiple music education and performing arts institutions, including: Brooklyn Music School, Expressions Music Academy, the University Musical Society, Dance Dynamics, and Detroit’s Third Wave Music Shop.

I hold a degree in Jazz Voice from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theater and Dance.
