Who is the ideal student?

Whether a total beginner or a seasoned professional, I work with students at all stages of their musical journey. I believe in a holistic approach to singing instruction that makes for meaningful progress.

Voice lessons are open to students of all ages and gender, who are ready to step into their singing voice in an empowered way.

❝ Alex is an absolutely fantastic teacher. [She] helped me take my technique several levels up and she had great ideas on the stylistic/interpretive side of things as well. She's very positive and her studio is a peaceful environment.❞

What is the value of singing lessons?

  • - To develop healthy technique for easeful, flexible singing

  • - To inspire creativity and confidence in self-expression

    - To have an opportunity to truly slow down and attend to one thing at a time

  • - To connect with your inner child

  • - To have a fun, supportive environment that fosters warmth and positivity around singing

❝ Alex is a dream to work with. Throughout many lessons together I gained confidence and skills, and felt I could access my voice in a newly full way. Alex goes above and beyond to write notes during the lesson and send materials for practicing at home. She is an incredible singer and composer, and her teaching style is warm, generous, supportive, encouraging, and grounded in her deep knowledge of her instrument. I can't recommend Alex highly enough!

Lessons for Adults

What do you learn in a voice lesson? Can you say more about the curriculum?

In voice we work through foundations of technique, including how to engage breath support for singing, expand range, smoothen registration changes, and build confidence.

Additionally, I teach all my students the foundations of reading music.

We explore all of these topics through vocal exercises, and repertoire in the pop, rock, jazz and musical theater genres, amongst others.

My Approach

I believe in a holistic approach to singing instruction that makes for meaningful progress. Our voices carry deep power, and therefore vulnerability. I believe my job as your instructor is to guide you toward confidence and more easeful creative expression. I prioritize vocal technique and health while guiding development of creativity and harmony between mind and body.

I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of students in my ten years teaching experience. Prior to running my own private music studio, I’ve been employed as a voice instructor out of multiple music education and performing arts institutions, including: Brooklyn Music School, Expressions Music Academy, the University Musical Society, Dance Dynamics, and Detroit’s Third Wave Music Shop.

I hold a degree in Jazz Voice from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theater and Dance.
