Hi, I’m Alex. I’m a vocalist and composer ready to help you nurture a passion for singing!

Me as a Performer

I’ve been passionate about singing since I was a young girl — much too shy to perform at the time, but finding such joy with my instrument.

Over the years, I gained the confidence to perform on stages in front of hundreds of people, and around the world. How did I get there? A lot of practice, patience, and encouragement along the way.

As a performer, I have loved being a internationally-touring musician performing my original music in various projects, singing in Jazz and rock bands, and collaborating with music/theater and visual artists. I’ve performed at venues such as The Detroit Symphony, Joe's Pub, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, and the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, and The Detroit Institute of Arts, amongst others.

Me as a Teacher

I believe my job as a teacher is to help support you in technical and artistic growth as a vocalist, no matter whether you're a seasoned performer or a total beginner. I prioritize vocal technique and vocal health while guiding development of organic creativity and harmony between mind and body.

In my 10+ years experience as a vocal instructor, I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of students in both private and group music lessons, Teaching Artist residencies, and university workshops.

Whether it's exploring aspects of breath, rhythm or registration, challenging my students to dig into the storytelling of a song, or working to prepare for a performance or an audition, I love watching faces light up when discoveries are made about what is possible. I prize self-expression and every student's unique journey to explore their potential.

I understand that singing is (very!) vulnerable — it’s an ancient and ancestral craft, precious to us as humans. I lead with encouragement and empathy.
